This year’s theme for Mental Health is “Movement: Moving more for mental health”
Mental Health Awareness Week was set up by the Mental Health Foundation 23 years ago is an annual event where the whole of the UK comes together to focus on achieving good mental health. The week aims to tackle stigma and provide people with the information and tools to understand and prioritise their own mental health.
The previous few years topics are shown below.
2023 – Anxiety. Everyone feels anxious from time to time – it’s a natural reaction to the uncertainties we face. It’s important to recognise when we feel anxious and why, so that we can control it and not be overcome.
2022 – Loneliness. Loneliness was a major issue in 2022 after the pandemic, and it had a an enormous impact on people’s physical and mental health.
2021 – Nature. Connecting with nature is important for human beings, and this aimed to show ways of bringing nature into everyday life.
2020 – Kindness. Findings from the Mental Health Foundation show that “63% of UK adults agree that when other people are kind it has a positive impact on their mental health, and the same proportion agree that being kind to others has a positive impact on their mental health.”
2019 – Body Image. The Mental Health Foundation research showed that almost 1 in 3 people have felt so stressed by body image and appearance that they felt overwhelmed or unable to cope.
At YouDriveHealth we intend to issue a series of posts aimed at helping people move more to support Mental Health Week. The first is about movement in the workplace.
